Abstract

The following are typing instructions for manuscripts to be published in the Symposium Proceedings.  All presentation authors are encouraged to submit a manuscript based on the work presented at the Symposium.

Manuscripts may be submitted by mail as camera-ready copy, or may be submitted electronically (via disk or E-mail). This document is intended to be an example of appropriate format.

Introduction

We would like to keep format details as flexible as possible to minimize the “technical” details of preparing a manuscript.  The following guidelines are offered in an effort to standardize style to the extent this is possible and desirable.  The overall goal is to make your paper and the Proceedings document look as professional as possible.

Basic Typing Instructions

The manuscript should be authored as a Microsoft Word document. Margins should be set to Top: 1.25 in., Bottom: 1.00 in. Left: 1.50 in. Right 1.50 in.  The text should be set in Times New Roman 12-point . Text line spacing should be set to Single. Paragraphs should begin with a 5-space indentation and should be separated by one blank line.

If you use something other than Microsoft Word, your manuscript must be submitted as camera-ready copy.

Authors/Titles

Please be sure that you include titles, E-mail addresses and mailing addresses for all authors.  Title and Author information should be centered at the top of the first page.  The Title should be typed in Times New Roman 16-point.

Additional Instructions

Beyond these simple format guidelines, normal rules apply.

Equations, Tables and Figures should all be numbered. Figures and Tables should be inserted in the text as soon as possible after the paragraph in which they are first mentioned.  Equations should be separated from the text by a single blank line above and below the equation.

References should be cited wherever appropriate.  A Reference section should be included.  Complete, detailed information should be provided for all references (all authors, (date), “paper title”, journal title, volume(number), pages, etc) . The “name, date” system for literature citation is preferred, but any valid consistent system will be acceptable.  Abbreviations should be avoided.

If appropriate, an Acknowledgment section should be provided.  This is generally inserted just before the References section and acknowledges the significant contributions of anyone now listed as an author. Funding sources are also generally acknowledged.

Manuscript Length

There is no minimum or maximum length requirement. Lengths on the order of 10 pages are appropriate. Excessive length should be avoided.

Figures and Tables

The proceedings will be published in black and white. The use of color that does not reproduce well in black and white should be avoided.

Use of Copyrighted Material

The proceedings document will be copyrighted.  No copyrighted material (figures, text, etc.) may be used without the written permission of the copyright holder.

Manuscript Submission Deadline

We would like to have all manuscripts submitted by August 1, 2001.
