HONORS CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY’S CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENT CHAPTER
The student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
at Case Western Reserve University was recently honored by the national
ASCE organization with a Letter of Honorable Mention for outstanding activities
during 2001. CWRU’s chapter was the only in Ohio to receive such
a commendation. ASCE students sponsored and participated in a variety
of professional and social activities in 2001. Chapter members hosted
a bridge-building competition for high school students, organized a civil
engineering career fair on campus for CWRU and other area universities,
participated in the national ASCE Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders
and the ASCE National Steel Bridge Competition, and served as tour guides
for an annual Historic Bridge Conference held in Cleveland. CWRU’s
ASCE chapter also hosted weekly lunch meetings for students and faculty,
sponsored research seminars by professional engineers, hosted the ASCE
Cleveland Section’s annual dinner, organized field trips to building sites
including Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater and the new Peter B. Lewis
Management Building, and held barbeque and social hour events for students
and faculty. ASCE students expect an equally busy year in 2002, with
continued emphasis on educational activities, professional involvement,
and service to the CWRU campus and community.
