CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING TO OFFER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM TO CIVIL ENGINEERING STUDENTS IN SUPPORT OF

ASCE INITIATIVE

CLEVELAND, OH , December 12, 2002---In an effort to support the goals of the American Society of Civil Engineers Policy Statement 465, which calls for the Master’s Degree to be considered the First Degree for Professional Practice, The Case School of Engineering has committed to a new scholarship program, (commencing the Fall ’02 term) for individuals who have received their BS degree in civil engineering from CWRU within the past five years and wish to pursue an MS degree. Full-time students, who meet the published entry requirements for the civil engineering MS program at CWRU, will be offered at least ½ tuition scholarship from The Case School of Engineering.

The ASCE Policy Statement 465 “… supports the concept of the Master’s Degree or Equivalent (MOE) as a pre-requisite for licensure and the practice of civil engineering at the professional level.”

The CWRU Department of Civil Engineering offers programs in: structural, environmental, geotechnical, mechanics, and construction management. The Case School of Applied Sciences was founded in 1880 and re-established as The Case School of Engineering in 1992.  The Department of Civil Engineering was the first engineering program established at the university. Case Western Reserve University is one of the nation's leading independent research universities, with programs that encompass engineering, the arts and sciences, health sciences, law, management, and social work.
